The Kingdom of God – Part 1

Pastor Louis Johnson, April 23, 2017

(Hosea 4:6) My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

  1. WHAT IS THE KINGDOM OF GOD?
  • Basileia– royal power, kingship, dominion, rule, authority
  • It’s the rule and reign of Christ on the earth.
  1. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

In the Gospels Jesus spoke 2 times about the church and 103 times about the kingdom of God.

(Matthew 6:33) But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

 (Matthew 16:13-19)

(Matthew 24:14) And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

 WHERE IS IT?

(Luke 17:20-21) Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; 21 nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there! For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”

(John 14:6) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

 WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

 (Matthew 6:9-13) (1 Corinthians 2:4-5) (1 Corinthians 4:20)

(John 14:12) “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to my Father.

CESSATIONIST– Those who believe the miraculous gifts ceased when the last Apostle died.

THE KINGDOM AND SOZO PROPHESIED

SOZO- full salvation for spirit, soul, and body.

 (Isaiah 9:6-7)

(Joel 2:32) And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord

Shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, As the Lord has said, among the remnant whom the Lord calls.

  • More New Testament scriptures using sozo.

(Matthew 1:21) And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

 (Acts 2:47) (Luke 8:36) (James 5:15) (Mark 6:56)

 OUT OF EGYPT

Even in the Old Testament, God revealed His heart for complete wholeness for the entire person- spirit, soul, and body.

 (Psalm 105:37) (Exodus 15:25-26)

In this passage, the Lord showed him a tree, a type of

  STRIPES FOR OUR HEALING

(Isaiah 53:4-5) Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.

In this verse, it says we are

 (1 Peter 2:24)

In this verse, Peter says that we were healed (past tense).

In both references, it tells us how Jesus paid for sin and healing all at once through the
